Tank Type Water Heaters

Drake Mechanical has chosen to sell and install Rheem Professional series Tank type water heaters for many reasons.  One is the fact that we have very few problems with them.  They are reliable and last a long time.  They have an 8 year tank warranty rather than the 6 year warranty that other tanks have.  You can also have an extra part added and Rheem with provide a 12 year warranty on the tank.  That means if the tank leaks in those 12 years then you get a new water heater.  How great of a deal is that?  The Rheem Professional water heater is also energy efficient.  Rheem is also one of the lowest NoX water heaters out there which means it burns more efficiently and cleaner so it is good for you and good for the environment.   If you are replacing your 20 year old water heater with a new energy efficient Rheem Professional Water heater you will most likely notice your power or gas usage going down due to more efficient heating elements and also the amount of insulation that they have on the tank. 

Water Heater Maintenance?

Do I still need to check and flush it every year you might ask?  The answer is yes.  As a water heater heats water some of the minerals and other stuff in the water drop out of the water and start to accumulate on the bottom of the tank.  As that builds up (especially with a gas water heater) the efficiency and tank capacity go down.  The heat from a gas water heater has to transfer through all that junk that is accumulating on the bottom of the water heater before it can get to the water to heat it.  That in turn costs you money.  If you are on a well and have sand  in your water you will also find that you are slowly filling your water heater up with sand and debris and loosing tank capacity.  As that happens you will notice you are running out of water more frequently.  The other things that are checked on a service call are proper operation of the safety features that will keep it from exploding in a worst case scenario, and also proper operation of both heating elements or the burner(s).   For an example of what is done on a water heater inspection and flush CLICK HERE and see a short video by Drake Mechanicals Nate and Dillon.
