Electric Water Heaters

Most everyone has a water heater of some sort in their home or office.  Some people have gas water heaters, some people have tankless water heaters and some offices only have a point of use water heater.  That leaves the always trustworthy and faithful electric water heater for the rest of us.  Electric water heaters have been around for a long time.  An electric water heater typically uses one or two electric resistance heat elements inside of them to heat the water.  These electric water heater elements are typically controlled separately by their own thermostat.  As you use water out of your electric water heater typically the bottom element will come on first as the cold water enters the bottom of the tank, as you continue to draw out water the top heating element will come on line and work in conjunction with the bottom heating element.  If you start to notice that you are running out of hot water a lot more quickly than you used to that probably means that one of your electric water heaters heating elements is burnt out or you have a bad thermostat.  Give the plumbers a call at Drake Mechanical and we can get your electric water heater fixed in a jiffy!  If you are looking for a new electric water heater our trained and licensed plumbers can also install a new water heater in your home or office.  If you think it is time to switch to a natural gas water heater Drake Mechanical's plumbers have the knowledge and know how to get your new gas water heater piped and vented outside so you can start saving money on your utilities today.

Electric Water Heater Maintenance?

You might be wondering if your electric water heater needs to be maintained?  The answer is YES.  As part of our 30 point plumbing inspection our plumbers flush out the water heater and get all the sediment and mineral buildup out of the bottom of the water heater tank.  Over time this buildup can actually get deep enough to cover up the lower element and short it out.  This also lessens the amount of hot water that is available in your tank.  The Anode rod inside your water heater ought to be checked every 2-3 years as well.  Over time the anode rod disintegrates and needs to be replaced.  This is normal.  The anode rod is inside the water heater so that the water attacks the anode rod and not the water heater tank.  In summary, the anode rod helps extend the life of your water heater.

Electric water heater installation in Boise

A.O. Smith ProMax Specialty Electric
These electric water heaters are ideal for small businesses or places that do not require a lot of hot water. They are smaller, use less energy (keeping electricity costs down), and still give you what you need. The Lowboy Side-Connect models are short and skinny, and can fit under a counter or in other tight spaces. If you do not require a lot of hot water per hour this small, indescrete electric water heater is ideal for you. Table top electric water heaters used to be commonly installed in smaller homes where there wasn't room to take up a closet with a bulky water heater. They are installed just like any stove or dishwasher, extending the counter space. This was nice as it extends counter space providing more work room or storage, rather than taking up a whole closet or space in the garage. Point-of-use water heaters are designed for low-demand fixtures, such as an office sink or a building with remote restrooms. They produce on demand hot water to only the fixture that it is hooked up to, which means you only pay to have hot water when you use it.
